Delgado captured the 2012 NJCAA Region XXIII/Miss-Lou Conference Title Sunday, defeating Meridian Community College 4-3 in the bottom of the 10th inning at Skaggs Field in Meridian, MS.
Logan Jones represented the winning run, crossing the plate following a wild pitch. He reached base on a walk and advanced on Angelo Bruno's single and Tony Fortier-Bensen's intentional walk. Delgado took an early 2-0 lead in the 5th inning following back to back RBI-singles by Bubby Riley and Daniel Brockhoeft. Meridian took a brief 3-2 lead in the 7th following a lead-off double by Gabe Woods and a two RBI- double by Blake Barrow. Daniel Brockhoeft's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th tied the game at three, scoring Brady Williamson who led off the inning with a single. The game remained tied until the walk off wild pitch scored Logan Jones in the bottom of the 10th. Josh Wood pitched the complete game on the mound, pitching ten innings while striking out seven with only three walks and three runs.
The Dolphins forced the If Necessary game earlier in the day, Delgado defeated the Eagles 14-1 in a game that was resumed in the 6th inning after a weather system forced its postponement on Saturday. John DeArmond earned the win in that game with Brady Hitt picking up the game on Sunday.
As the Region XXIII Champion, Delgado earns a berth in the South Central District Regional to be held next weekend (May 18-20) at the site of the Region II Champion, Jefferson College (Hillsboro, Missouri). The tournament's third team will represent Region XVI and is yet to be determined. The 2012 title represents Delgado's sixth over the past seven seasons.
Head Coach Joe Scheuermann was also named the 2012 Region XXIII/Miss-Lou Coach of the Year.
